When is it necessary to undergo a root canal?
Continuous caries that was not treated in time causes extensive destruction of tooth material and damage to the nerve part of the tooth. This process is usually accompanied by severe pain and increased sensitivity.
In cases where the caries has passed through the layers of enamel and dentine and reached the pulp of the tooth, it will no longer be possible to be satisfied with a normal filling, but root canal treatment will be necessary.
The purpose of the treatment is to stop the growth of the bacteria that cause the destruction of the tooth towards the tip of the roots that may cause the formation and spread of infection in the jawbones.
The course of root canal treatment
- Opening the tooth and removing the caries
- removal tooth fluff and cleaning the root canals from bacterial residues
- Filling the tooth with a special material and sealing it
It is common to take an X-ray to make sure that the treatment is indeed necessary.
In most cases, the treatment is performed in several sessions, but there are cases where a root canal treatment can be completed in a single session.
Root canal treatment naturally involves the loss of the tooth's feel and sensation. Root canal treatment can be 1-4 canals according to the number of them in the tooth.
A tooth that has undergone root canal treatment is weakened due to disconnection from the blood vessels and is therefore prone to breaking, and for this reason it is recommended after root canal treatment to restore the tooth by performing structure and crown porcelain.
